Chip Timing

In 2010 we're introducing Chip Timing for the first time.   We are using Gun to Chip timing due to as there is not enough time in a 10k for the mats to be moved from Start to finish. Everyone will get the same start time (as in a normal race) but your individual finish time will be automatically recorded as you cross the finish line.

Your race packs will contain your number and final race details BUT NOT YOUR CHIP.

Collecting Your Chip

You must collect your chip on the morning of the race from the race HQ, the sports hall at Chessington Community College, which will be clearly signposted from the car parks (note there is no parking at the College itself, you will have a short walk from the parking at Chessington World of Adventures). You'll need to show us your race number to collect it.  Why have we done this? We've been told by Sports Systems that roughly 10% of all chips used for an event get "lost" before the race or not returned afterwards by people who don't end up running.  We have to pay £2 per chip for these and don't want to load this onto the race price.  Please leave enough time to collect your chip on the day, bearing in mind the 500m walk to the start.

Fitting Your Chip

The chips are worn around your ankle; any higher and your time will not be recorded.

  1. Loosen the laces of your running shoes
  2. Thread the wire twist ties under the laces
  3. Thread the Chip onto the wire twist ties
  4. Secure the Chip by twisting the wire twist ties firmly together

At The Finish

You must wear your Chip for the duration of the race. fitted as per the instructions above to get an official finish time. If you do not wear the Chip properly, then the system will not record you finishing and therefore we will be unable to provide you with a finish time. Sorry, but NO TAG NO TIME. DO NOT Cross and then recross the line!

When you cross the finish line we have a team of helpers to remove the timing chip from your shoe – please follow the volunteers instructions.
